Independance Day....Let's Celebrate!!
Letters to and from the Editor
Be on the look out for activities and people that may look suspicious. There have been 3 reported robberies and a reported stolen car along with a renter in Hillwood being arrested for drugs. This is all new to us but goes along with the present way of the country. Make sure that your doors and windows and your home is secured if you go out for any length of time! Also, make sure if you park a vehicle in your driveway for no matter how long that you close all the windows and lock it up. Many thiefs are comitted quickly from unsecured vehicles. Call 911 immediately if you see anything that seems not right. The non-emergency for the Sheriff is 726-1121 if you do not feel comfortable calling 911. Deputy Sue Webb is our Community Resource Officer and she can be reached at 527-4925 if you would like to discus a problem you see with her. If you would like to volunteer for the Sheriff's office call Sgt. Chris Evans at 527-3701.

Hi folks,
Well, here we are again another month later. One of the latest news items is about the problems our neighbors along a stretch of Jademoor are having with sand and water washing down the hill from the common area into their lawns. During extremely heavy rainfalls, the water will puddle around their homes and possibly seep into their homes or garages. After conferring with the swfmud and reviewing the original developer plans, we have come to the conclusion that the maintenance of the sandy trails at the top of the hill behind the Recreation center (and Jademoor) is a contributing factor in the problem. With no ground cover or leaves (as would be there in a natural setting) along the paths, the water is allowed to flow along the paths and run down over the hill, taking loose sand with it. Many suggestions and remedies have been run past us, but the basic solution, it appears, is to let the path re-naturalize. This does not mean that people cannot walk the trail. It does mean that the path will be allowed to return to a natural state. Residents of the area have been sent letters requesting that they not make any changes to the area at the top of the hill. In addition, we ask that no one else make any changes in any common areas throughout Laurel Ridge.
Don Moccia has done a great job and put a lot of work into making the path what it is today and has done so with the blessings of the board and community. We are very sorry that no one ever thought this would be a problem and are sorry that Don’s efforts can’t continue. The path has been enjoyed by many of our residents. Hopefully, it can still be enjoyed, but it won’t be the nice path that Don had done for us.
For more information on this situation, please come to the next board meeting on July 8th at the library at 2:00pm.
We still need more community involvement here in Laurel Ridge. Remember what I have been saying…..if we don’t get people to run for the board next spring, we could be taken over by a state appointed management company. This will cost us dearly and will not be our own people looking out for our area. If you could get involved now, perhaps you would see the many tasks that this board of directors must care for and get a feel for whether you could be of assistance. If more people chipped in to help it would ease the load considerably. Call any board member to let them know if you would be willing to help in any way. For instance, we need someone to just turn off the soaker hose water every day for about a month to try to get our jasmine established on the hill by the activity center (I have asked Diane and Don Barnes to turn it on when they go up to swim and they have graciously agreed to do it). My hubby has been turning it off later in the day. In addition, the new replacement shrub has to be watered every day to get it established and my husband has been dutifully doing it daily, also. And again, attendance at the board meetings shows us that you also care about the condition of your community and how your money is being spent. We will be looking for your input.
Barb Lange
Notice:
It has been noticed that there has been some dumping of yard waste and old shrubs and branches at the top of the hill along Jademoor and behind the activity center along with other areas of the community. Our yard waste can be picked up by the refuse company and grass clippings should be mulched. This property belongs to all of us in the community, not just a few. The resident who piled the yard waste at the top of the hill was told to immediately stop dumping up there and to remove the piles of grass clippings and shrubs from the area. To anyone else who wants to dump their waste somewhere else, please don’t, it degrades the entire community and you are infringing on someone else’s property.

The Hungry Rabbit - By Bunny Bucci

Create a luscious dessert without heating up your kitchen. This is a delicious pie that people just love on a hot Summer day.
Freezer Caramel Drizzle Pie
2 (9-inch) prepared graham cracker crusts
6 Tbls. butter
1 (7-ounce) package shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

1 (16-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (12-ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping
Place butter in a medium skillet and melt over medium heat. Add coconut and pecans, stirring to coat. Saute until coconut and pecans are lightly toasted, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whip together condensed milk and cream cheese until fluffy.
Fold in whipping topping. Spoon 1/4 of cream cheese mixture into each graham cracker crust. Drizzle each with 1/4 of caramel topping.
Repeat layers with remaining cream cheese mixture and caramel. Top each pie with coconut and pecan mixture.
